Evidence suggests that people will be infectious 1-3 days before their symptoms show, with the highest viral loads and infectiousness being at the onset of the symptoms.
The infectiousness then declines over a period and this varies from person to person. Our greatest risk of inadvertently spreading the coronavirus is for that time when we are infectious but not yet showing symptoms. Rapid antigen tests are extremely accurate at identifying people who are infectious. Therefore, regular screening using rapid antigen testing can identify infectious people before they show symptoms and help to remove them from work, sport or social situations.
Pcr and antigen tests are the most common but they work differently. The commonly-used pcr tests can be administered at home (with samples sent to and analyzed in a lab) or they can be performed in a medical provider environment (again, with samples sent to and analyzed in a lab). Results are typically provided 2-5 days after the lab receives the specimens. They’re close to 100% accurate and privately-provided tests usually cost about €130. The rapid antigen tests that we provide can be used in any environment and can be self-administered, with results available in about 15 minutes. They’re 96% accurate and cost as little as €7.
